Virtualization and storage solutions help drive the Cloud
Date: Wed, 02/23/2011 - 14:08
No Cloud Computing without virtualization! The keynote theme at CeBIT 2011 - "Work and Life with the Cloud" - is at the core of the "Virtualization & Storage" display segment in Hall 2 (stand A 30), where enterprises like VMware, Citrix, Microsoft, NetApp, Symantec and IBM will showcase their Cloud usage models within the context of virtualization and storage solutions
According to the Gartner market researchers, well-executed virtualization can put IT departments in a position to become more service-based, including promoting scalable and flexible resources, measuring dynamic usage and even offering "chargebacks". These are the main steps on the road to Cloud computing, which IT departments can leverage to become professional Cloud Computing providers.
Virtualization makes IT infrastructure more flexible and more efficient, translating into substantial reductions in operating and administrative costs. An IDC survey revealed that, although two thirds of German enterprises were currently occupied with the Cloud topic of Storage-as-a-Service (SaaS), only 12% actually employed the technology. "By showcasing innovative virtualization and storage solutions at CeBIT 2011, we are informing enterprises of all sizes about the opportunities for increased efficiency," reports Reinhold Umminger, Vice President for CeBIT at Deutsche Messe. This, he added, "helps strengthen their competitiveness and prepare them for future market challenges."
