Finalists and winners named at VIP Dinner in Barcelona
The winners of the prestigious MEF (Metro Ethernet Forum) Carrier Ethernet Awards for 2012 were announced at the Carrier Ethernet World Congress in Barcelona. These annual Awards recognize excellence and leadership in the development, marketing and delivery of Carrier Ethernet Services, and are presented annually in North America, Asia-Pacific, EMEA and the Caribbean and Latin American regions. A Global Service Provider of the Year is also recognized.
The awards this year, encompassed four specific categories – to encourage the widest range of submissions, regardless of size or footprint, with the judging panel comprised of senior analysts from Current Analysis, IDC, Infonetics, Informa and Ovum.
For the first time, this year’s Business Services category was enhanced to recognize both the service povider and end user customer, resuling in excellent submissions across many vertical markets. The analyst juding panel voted Bird & Bird and Colt in the Professional Services market, Slovakia Broadcast & Television Company and GTS Central Europe in the Television and Broacasting industry along with SmartGaming Group and Colt in the Live Dealer Gaming segment, as the eventual winners of this year’s inaugural “Best Carrier Ethernet Business Application Awards”.
“Best Wholesale Ethernet Service” includes applications for mobile backhaul, data centre and provider interconnects for the provisioning of managed point-to-point Ethernet services to their clients as well as overall contribution to Ethernet ubiquity. This year’s winner was GTS Central Europe, who edged out fellow finalists Colt and Eurofiber.
“Best Marketing”, as in previous years, recognizes the value in spreading the word about the many benefits of Carrier Ethernet. The judges assessed the campaign’s goals and objectives, how it differentiated the services and the results gained. Broadnet, Colt and Verizon made the finals but it was Colt that scored the highest to take this year’s award.
The “Regional Service Provider of the Year” is awarded on the basis of the cumulative score from the above 3 categories plus additional qualifications relating to the company’s location and specific regional coverage. The winner this year was Colt with GTS a close runner-up.
“Colt is very proud to be recognised once again by the MEF Carrier Ethernet Awards” commented Henry Bohannon, Head of Ethernet & IP Services at Colt. “It has been an exciting year in terms of continuing to enhance Colt’s Ethernet Services and the independent judging panel of industry analysts provides a respected endorsement of our capabilities. The MEF awards allow us to demonstrate market leadership and expertise to our customers and to showcase Colt’s Ethernet Service portfolio.”
