Second installment of international innovations competition announced
As the world’s leading event for the digital industry, CeBIT is once again supporting theCODE_n initiative and its international competition for startups and budding enterprises. In line with its motto of “Smart Solutions for Global Challenges”, the contest is devoted to uncovering inspired digital business models for sustained energy solutions. Innovators from across the globe are invited to submit their business models online at www.code-n.org.
The50 most creative startups will be entitled to present their solutions to an international audience from 5 to 9 March at CeBIT 2013. A prize purse totaling €30,000 also beckons. The competition’s sponsors and strategic partners are GFT Technologies AG, Ernst & Young GmbH and the CeBIT organizers at Deutsche Messe AG.
Any company which has concluded at least one business deal and whose date of establishment is 2006 or later is eligible to compete. The registration deadline is 18 November 2012.
The business models entered can be in the context of energy-saving smart grids or clean-tech approaches to enhancing energy efficiency or even electromobility as an example of alternative energy concepts. Other points of reference include intelligent power management concepts for cities and buildings – in short, any kind of product, service or method which helps conserve energy.
“The energy transition [to renewable sources of energy] represents a survival topic for all of us,” comments Ulrich Dietz, CEO of GFT and the initiator ofCODE_n, explaining the event’s focus. “The political discussion however constantly threatens to become bogged down in petty debates about obstacles, regulations and costs. Instead, we need to motivate the younger generation to develop and market its solutions. Creativity knows no bounds, and contestants merely need to convince the jury that their solution is capable of making a valuable contribution to the energy transition.”
Frank Pörschmann, Member of the Deutsche Messe Managing Board with responsibility for CeBIT, expects CODE_n to create an inspiring atmosphere, stating the “CeBIT promotes creative startups and, with the CODE_n competition, provides a unique global showcase for a tangible, close-up look at innovations. Young company founders with a burning passion for their business ideas encounter established entrepreneurs and investors in Hannover, and CeBIT provides fertile soil for the fast, targeted development of the industry’s innovative potential. We look forward to seeing an array of outstanding applications and exciting presentations at CeBIT 2013.”
Gerhard Müller, a partner at Ernst & Young, believes CODE_nis on the right track: “Startups and innovative enterprises need support to establish themselves in the marketplace. The first installment ofCODE_n allowed us to provide an impressive demonstration of what this can look like. We are now building on this success. With our special focus on the topic of ‘IT and Energy’, we have embarked on an exciting path and are providing CODE_n with a profile that is sure to generate even more attention in Germany and abroad.”
CODE_n is an international initiative for digital pioneers, innovators and trailblazing startups. Launched in 2011 by GFT Technologies, the network’s goal is to promote outstanding young talents and their out-of-the-box business ideas, bringing them together in dialog and helping stimulate and accelerate innovations. CODE_n stands for “Code of the New”, the DNA of innovation. The CODE_n competition takes place in2013 for the second time. Last year more than 400 applicants from 42 nations entered the contest.
