Demonstrating how it can help cable operators deliver rich, diverse service offerings at high-speeds, Thomson, worldwide leader of services to content creators, has confirmed that its cable modems and VoIP gateways received the DOCSIS 3.0 and EuroDOCSIS 3.0 certifications
Pascal Portelli, Vice President Broadband & Connected Devices, Thomson comments, “Thomson is proud to achieve the first EuroDOCSIS 3.0 certification in the industry. Given our strong presence with European cable operators, we expect to be a driving force behind the deployment of ultra-broadband offerings in Europe. Just a few days after this industry first in Europe, we also achieved two DOCSIS 3.0 certifications in the US, with the first modems and eMTAs capable of bonding 8 downstream channels. Speeds of over 300Mbps are now commercially available throughout the world with Thomson cable CPEs.”
EuroDOCSIS 3.0 Certified Products: TCM470 Cable Modem and THG570 VoIP Gateway
Underlining Thomson’s key role in the delivery of high-bandwidth solutions, the TCM470 and the THG570 are the first EuroDOCSIS 3.0 certified products capable of bonding 8 downstream channels in a cost effective one chipset solution. Both products are DOCSIS 3.0 and EuroDOCSIS 3.0 dual mode which will enable operators to deliver faster data rates and/or offer advanced IP services to their subscribers.
The ability of the TCM470 cable modem to meet the specifications of EuroDOCSIS 3.0 coupled with its impressive channel bonding capabilities will dramatically increase the throughput for data-over-cable services and help cable operators provide an even greater diversity of services to broadband customers including bandwidth-hungry applications.
Product features include up to 320 Mbps download speed, IP Multicast, and Layer-2 VPN.
It also supports the next-generation Internet Protocol, IPv6.
The THG570 which is also EuroPacketCable 1.5 certified is a 2-line, VoIP cable modem, otherwise known as an eMTA (embedded multimedia terminal adapter), which allows operators to connect their customers to both digital voice and high-speed internet services through one integrated device, delivering data rates of up to 320 Mbps. Its launch reflects Thomson’s commitment to develop compelling multiple play services via enhanced residential products for all network operators.
DOCSIS 3.0 Certified Products: DCM475 Cable modem and DHG575 VoIP Gateway
Like the TCM470 and the THG570, Thomson’s DCM475 and DHG575 offer modularity and flexibility, providing users the ability to start with four downstream channels and then move to eight as and when required by means of a simple software upgrade.
Thanks to these products, operators will be benefit from advanced features such as:
• IPv6, Internet Layer protocol to bring flexibility in network management and to enhance security;
• power consumption management towards Thomson’s ECO design products;
• dual split tuners providing users with more flexibility and enhanced management of frequency plans;
• advanced power management, delivering better control of power consumption;
• control of jitter latency for time-sensitive traffic on the network.
These cable modems and VoIP gateways come in a sleek attractive new case design which becomes Thomson’s new «family look» going forward.
Critically, all of these products protect the investment made by operators in either DOCSIS 2.0 or EuroDOCSIS 2.0 equipment by offering backward compatibility to those standards as appropriate.
