Touchscreen smartphone sales to reach 355 million by 2015

According to “Global Smartphone Sales Forecast by Form Factor: 2004 to 2015,” by the Strategy Analytics Wireless Smartphone Strategies (WSS) service, global smartphone sales with a full touchscreen will reach 355 million units by 2015, up from 46 million in 2009
The rapid growth in smartphones with a full touchscreen will ultimately benefit media companies that want to deliver richer user-experiences for mobile consumers, such as Facebook, Netflix and Disney.
Tom Kang, Director at Strategy Analytics, said, “We forecast global smartphone sales with a full touchscreen to rise from 46 million units in 2009 to 355 million by 2015. Smartphone form factors have undergone a rapid period of transition in the past three years, switching from keypad-centric designs to slate designs with full touchscreens due to the success of the Apple iPhone. We expect that trend to continue for the foreseeable future.”
